Ulysses S. Grant's Whistle Stop Tour: Missoula, Montana

President Ulysses S. Grant was in Missoula, Montana on Wednesday, March 26th as part of a campaign to modernize the Civil War-era law that governs gold, uranium and other hardrock mining in the West. In his whistle stop tour, dubbed "Farewell to 1872," President Grant, who signed the mining law of 1872, signed and delivered a proclamation with Montana hunters and anglers, public officials and outdoor enthusiasts who support reform. Montana legislators presented a letter, also asking for reform, signed by 27 current and former Montana legislators, mayors and county commissioners.
